Benefits of Custom Orthotics
|
Foot Orthotics are custom made to the individual’s feet and are ergonomic, biomechanical devices designed to improve function by supporting the foot’s ability to load and transmit complex forces which, when placed in a shoe, redirect abnormal weight and motion problems and maximized ergonomic efficiency of load bearing joints of the body (foot, ankle, knee, leg, hip, pelvis, and spine). This support repositions the heel, arch, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and bones in the feet, enabling these structures to work together, with the objective of making each step pain free. Each foot has 185 individual working parts – bones, ligaments, muscles, and joints – using complex tri-plane joint motions. The foot acts as a shock absorber and stabilizer of body mass during precise phases of the gait (walking) cycle. To reduce pain and improve ergonomic function, these complex joint interactions must exist in a specific relationship, one to the other. Individuals are born with fallen arches, loose muscles, or biomechanical defects such as pronation (a rolling out of the foot), or they may develop heel spurs, bunions, or other defects which interfere with the relationship of one foot structure to the other. The existence of anomalies is conducive to the development of injuries, disease, and fatigue effecting the feet and skeletal body structure. Our Orthotics are designed to relieve foot and ankle fatigue and pain by supporting the individual components of the feet and stabilizing the ankles. Orthotics protect the stressed areas and are designed to re-distribute the abnormal weight stress over the entire foot. The result is increased efficiency, including better athletic performance and reduced fatigue facilitating greater endurance in sports for longer periods of time. By accommodating internal foot abnormalities, redirection of weight and stress, support and stabilization of feet and ankles, pain can be alleviated.
